And should this life bring suffering
And should this life
Bring suffering
Lord, I will remember
What Calvary has bought for me
Both now and forever
From God You're So Good, by Passion, here.
We sang this song at church tonight, and the song leader paused and said 'let's sing that again'. Now I don't always enjoy having to repeat verses and bridges in worship songs ;), but that one was worth it!
People can wind up in all sorts of conundrums about God and suffering and why it happens ... But I've had my name on a gravestone since I was four years old and when people say to me 'where is God in suffering' I say 'he's right there in the middle of it, hanging on the cross'. The cross was not only a penal substitutionary atonement, it was the death blow to suffering. We might not, we won't, see that always right now, but one day we will. As Tim Keller says, 'God takes our misery and suffering so seriously that He was willing to take it on Himself'. We just need to wait and see.
Thus I like this song.
