In the Time of Disappointment

Some time ago I found this lovely little slim black book at a Lifeline Book Fair called The Plain Man’s Book of Prayers by William Barclay. I read this one recently. I was going to type it out and then decided it looked so much nicer in the book that I would take a photo, so hopefully it’s readable.

It struck me that it’s a good prayer to pray in singleness, because, let’s be honest, singleness often brings with it a good helping of disappointment, and folks often go through periods in their life of struggling to hold to the path of spiritual and psychological health in response to it. The same could probably be said of infertility, chronic illness, unemployment and a limitless list of other disappointments. 

So here is a prayer for a time of disappointment.
